The Client From Hell
When war veterans gather together, invariably the discussion turns around to war horror stories and a display of war wounds. Whenever I get together with other design professionals, the conversation also inevitably turns to client horror stories in the trenches and the CLIENT FROM HELL!
At first they seem so charming, you are bequiled into agreeing to do a project for them... then all hell breaks loose! Every designer has a CLIENT FROM HELL story or two. Recognize any or all of these?
Trace Internet Paths
You type a url into your browser and seemingly like magic, a web page appears.
Sometimes it seems like you are waiting forever, you can almost go and take a bubble bath and sip a glass of champagne while waiting for the page to load.
The time it takes for a web site to load up on your browser depends on many factors.
- The computer or browser you use
- Your internet connection method (modem, cable, T1 Line etc).
- Big images and multimedia can be slow to load.
- The web site you are trying to access may be a popular page on an overloaded server.
and the path/route your request takes - from your computer to the computer that hosts the web site you are trying to access also plays a role in how fast a web page loads.
Wouldn't it be useful to be able to follow that path and see exactly where you are going and how long it takes?
